I've been to Japantown here a bunch of times, but I can never remember which places I like. We came here based on a Yelp recommendation. The seating is very casual. The staff is very friendly, and both the service and the food was quick. I thought it would be a waste of good katsu to get it in curry. I ended up ordering the Ganji special and Patricia had the crab katsu. When my dish arrived, it was on a sizzling platter, with grilled onions, topped with curry. So I ended up getting what I wanted, even if it was a "waste" of katsu (note: it wasn't a waste). The grilled onions really added to the flavor, and I was really happy with the meal. The katsu sauce is specially made - though I couldn't really hear very well. I thought they said it was with tomato and cream. She thought they said it was miso-based, but I heard something else. Regardless, it's a good katsu sauce. This place also gets props for a nice loose leaf genmaicha when I ordered hot tea. This is one of the best places we've had katsu stateside, and definitely the best we've had in Northern California. (There was a really good specialty place in San Diego, but that's a different review).

Food is absolutely phenomenal with a great service. We got the Omakase Don and chicken Kats and we love it. Our server Gina is super friendly. Absolutely great time for lunch or dinner.

The pork tonkatsu was the right amount of tender and fatty, and the exterior was nice and crispy. The sides were nice. The beef soup was mild tasting and they provided salt and pepper to season to taste. I'll come again!

Randomly ran into this spot in San Francisco, I love Katsu, typically katsu is decent at some places because it's one of the dishes but Ganji's focus on katsu specifically shows through how much flavor they're able to put into a katsu dish and the variations of it they've made. Our group got different types of katsu, and every single dish was amazing. The food comes with some light side condiments, rice and miso soup which was great. Staff was friendly and patient as we figured out what we wanted. The place was nicely decorated. Would 100% come back.

This is a great little restaurant with a cool decor and a really nice vibe. Friendly service from all. We came in for an early and light dinner. Has a half dozen oysters on the half shell. Bright, fresh and delicious. We also split the hamachi truffle and chicken yakitori. The hamachi truffle is definitely one of their "go to" speciality dishes. I can see why some would absolutely love this dish. But we thought it was too truffle forward and found it just wasn't for us. Absolutely beautifully presented, though! The chicken yakitori was delicious and quite a generous portion. We didn't get any katsu, which is clearly their main event. It looked incredible, but too much fried food for our appetites that night. I'd certainly consider returning someday just to try it. We were in and out of here in just over a half hour because their service is snappy with a smile.
